Weekend Shopping!

The nesting tables of last week (white) Matt decided were a bit too white and fem, so when I found a set of these 2 black tables it was like the universe had heard him! What I love about them is they have little touches of red, which go with the carpet, they have handles for ease of moving them, they are sturdier than any other small table I have purchased for the living room AND, the edges make a built in safety net for Reese's labby tail to NOT remove everything on it! Needless to say, they came home with me :-) This little bunny rabbit was just too cute. Once I picked him up, I literally couldn't put him down. For those of you that know me, it's not really like me to buy something that doesn't have a strict purpose or already has a place in the house (even if it's in my head) but this little guy? Honestly! How could I leave that little face on the shelf of Home Goods??
And here's my last funny pic of the day........ you know your mom loves your dog when!
You find them snuggling on the living room floor together!
What have you all been up to lately?

Guestroom Update pt 3

I went back and picked up my pretty lamps for the guestroom. Which meant that this:
Went to this!
With the new bed coming this week, I'm currently debating what to do with that headboard..... or to just take it out altogether...... maybe move the paintings to above the lamps?

Guestroom Update

So here's a reminder of what the guestroom looked like around December 2010. The bed is a queen size aero-bed which is why it's so low.

This is the inspiration picture that started all the changes:

Here's the guestroom in its present state. Two new/old sidetables have been added, the headboard has been draped in a sheet to test colors (color cards are on the wall), grey comforter has been put into a white duvet (sorry abt the lumps! I was trying to take the picture and Reese kept wanting to play) and the second waaaay too small lamp has been put in along with a few books etc on the lower shelf.

A close up of the small pillow on the bed - the fabric is a tweed to help add texture.

Here is the console table in the store before being brought home with a lamp option for the guestroom..... (the nesting tables behind also came home with me but they are being tested in various locations at the moment)

A better shot of the lamp - the glass is apparently called Mecury Glass:

What do you think? is the shade too taup-y? or would it look FAB? :)

Curtain Change-up!

My wonderful husband made a confession the other day: he doesn't like the master bedroom curtains. sigh. I wasn't thrilled with them either, but they'd been up for almost a year and I kinda figured they had just 'stuck'.

So off I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond and found some curtain options:

Now, I thought the darker blue would be perfect, but.... yeah, not so much! So after a bit of discussion, and letting them stay up like that for 12 hrs or so, the decision was made: Black.

In addition, The roman shades I wanted for the house are being discontinued. Thus, that quick purchase this week. The store is currently on the hunt for two more - that way all three bedrooms will have the same shades.

Here is Matt putting up the roman shades like a champ!

Wooooooo! Master Bedroom Curtains DONE!!!!

I'm not sure if you saw the grey blip on the bed (amongst the mess) but it's our new duvet cover. The white duvet cover will go into the guest room and the grey will help mask the Reese fur (wink)

New Job

I started a new job yesterday. It's a full time position for a financial company. I know, I was thinking that finance would be a thing of the past. Thing is? It's kinda been a career for the past 5 yrs or so and thus, easier to get into and they pay and benefits are, of course, better than temping.

My brain is mush. Which, is a good thing since it means it's been thinking - learning. But it also means that projects I had lined up for during the weeknights this week, might (probably) won't be happening. Ah well, it's been raining anyway, so I can't really do the chandy project until it's dry out again and painting doesn't seem all that wise with the crazed dog we've been experiencing of late.

I promise I'll be back with more pictures and projects this weekend. Until then, this mushy brain is going to chase balls around the house with my crazy dog :-)

Study Curtains

This fabric I found a while ago while out with my Mum. The graphic reminds me of mosiac tile. Totally awesome, but I was a bit unsure as it's outside my comfort zone, but the price was SO incredible that I decided to ultimately go for it. :-)

Here are the study curtains before.... closed and open. White sheers with a subtle stripe. Not bad. Classic. But, ummm..... kinda boring, right?

And these......

Are the new study curtains...... closed and open :-)

MUCH bolder! They deffinately add some zing to the study. The windows will also get some white roman shades inside the window frame to match the other two bedrooms.
I'm still on the hunt for a great lamp or two as well as some kind of storage unit for the wall opposite the desk (just out of sight on the right). I'm dreaming of something like an antique hutch/ china cabinet that would be painted white and may have some fun colorful paper lining the back for added interest!
But we'll see how things unfold :-)

Garage Organization

I forgot to take before pictures, but believe me when I say it was a MESS! So, a trip to Home Depot later, we have a place to store the garden hose, long handled tools, and a storage shelf unit for everything else.

The boxes in front need to be sorted through. The theory was that everything should fit on that one shelving unit ;-)

To be perfectly honest, the tool boxes need some help and organization too, but this at least got everything in the same place...... we had stuff in the basement as well as the garage sitting on the floor.
See all the space in the basement now? This was FILLED with tools, car stuff, and general stuff that is now in the garage. What you see left now is tray table storage, paint, storage food buckets (they were a gift) and extra tile and grout that came with the house. (I'm sur eyou're not blind and see all the stuff on the other side of the stud wall, but that's for another day!)

A Few New Pieces

These are two matching metal architectural details according to the store. I think they may have been vent covers originally, but either way, they came home with me and are now finding a home in the living room.

I haven't hung them yet, sort of trying them out - but I am liking them more and more there!

This is a print on a stretched canvas. It works very well in the guest bathroom as the background is a similiar light green AND, there is no glass or paper to have to worry about with humidity.

I took a few shots to try and get the color true. This last photo I think is the closest.... bu tyou could always come visit and see for yourself!

Coming up shortly........ the guestroom is evolving!
